A suspected cult leader, simply identified as Badoo, has been killed during a clash involving rival cult groups in Osogbo.
Eye witnesses said the cult groups clashed on Sunday evening in front of a joint along the Gbongan Road, Osogbo.
The deceased, it was gathered, was accosted by about 11 men wielding dangerous weapons and ordered to enter into a waiting vehicle.
“But the man did not obey them. No one could go near the scene, but from the other side where we watched them, they wanted to forcibly carry the man away. He stood his ground and because he disobeyed his attackers, Badoo was shot at repeatedly,” a shop owner near the scene of the attack, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
A security source said the two cult groups had been engaged in a supremacy battle in the last 10 months in the state.
He said over the period, several members of the groups had been killed in retaliation for earlier killings and as a proof of superiority.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent and assured residents that all those involved in the murder would be apprehended and prosecuted.
