Sarri’s message to Jorginho after some Chelsea fans cheered his substitution

After Chelsea fans sarcastically cheered when Jorginho was subbed off in the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, manager Maurizio Sarri has defended the Italian, stating that he must ‘play in every condition’.

Jorginho came off in the 72nd minute for Willian with Chelsea chasing the game after Raul Jiminez opened the scoring for Wolves in the 56th minute. There were some cheers from parts of the Stamford Bridge crowd, which appeared to be a mix of appreciation of a more attacking style, but also for the 27-year-old coming off. Eden Hazard scored a 92nd-minute leveler to rescue a point for Chelsea.

Speaking in a press conference after the Wolves stalemate, Sarri urged Jorginho to adapt to every condition, “Jorginho, if the other players don’t move without the ball, is in trouble. He is really very able to play at one touch, but if you want to play one touch you need movements from the other players.

“Then, in the last 20 minutes, Jorginho is not suitable for 4-2-3-1. So it was only a consequence of the change of system, not the performance. I know him very well. He can go in trouble if all the rest of the team are not moving. He is a very strong character and a professional player. He has to play in every condition.”
