Ogun pays August salary, Kwara to begin payment

The Ogun State Government says it has paid all categories of its workers the August 2018 salaries, to enable them to meet up with their needs, during the forthcoming Eld-el-Kabir celebration.

The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Adewale Oshinowo, in a statement released on Tuesday, said the early payment of the salaries was another evidence of the government’s commitment towards ensuring the welfare of the workers.

The government, he added, would continue to ensure that it paid its workers’ salaries as, and when due.

The statement read partly, “This is yet another gesture of this government, to ensure that the workers are able to adequately prepare for the Eid celebrations.

“As a matter of fact, the government is only following its tradition of paying salaries of workers, early enough, for festival.”

The commissioner urged the workers to continue to reciprocate this with hard work and commitment to duty.

In a related development, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has directed the state Ministry of Finance to commence the payment of August salary to workers in the state, immediately. He stated that this should be complied with ahead of the Eid celebrations and before the release of federal allocations for August.

In a statement on Wednesday by Ahmed’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dr Muyideen Akorede, the Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu, also said arrangements had subsequently been concluded to implement the directive. He explained that a facility had been secured to ensure workers started receiving their salaries with effect from Thursday.

He said Ahmed gave the directive to ensure that the workers enjoy the Sallah celebration.

Banu added that Ahmed’s directive came at a time the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee had yet to meet for the month, let alone disbursing monthly allocation to federal, state and local governments.

According to him, this testifies to the government’s commitment to the welfare of the people.
