AFCON 2019: Doctor, Rohr monitoring Super Eagles defender’s progress

Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi has been placed under close monitoring by coach Gernot Rohr and medical staff of the team.

Abdullahi was forced off the pitch in the first half in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Burundi on Saturday.

According to the official, who pleaded anonymity, the Russia 2018 World Cup star has been struggling with the injury for long, but it seems what happened on Saturday was not too serious.

“The team doctors have put him on special treatment, but we shall see what happens during the week to decide whether he remains in camp or go for expert treatment outside here.

“As it is, unless a miracle happens, he is not likely to play the AFCON 2019 second Group B tie against Guinea on Wednesday,” he said.

Super Eagles will meet Guinea in their second group match on Wednesday and the official said coach Rohr would not risk the defender in the game if he were not fully recovered before then.
